Metallic foil is supplied by manufacturers who specialize in numerous and specific industries, applications and customer needs. Metallic foil is very application specific which covers a wide variety of alloys, tempers and gauges and so there are many different products.
Because of the physical characteristics of the metallic foil such as the grades, purity, composition the manufacturing of foil needs specialized and experienced attention. Die cutting very thin malleable foil such as 0.003-0.010” has to be treated and handled very carefully in the manufacturing process as the foil is easily damaged and the quality of the final product will not be acceptable.
Metallic foil is usually supplied in roll form and in various roll widths. It is usually sold in hundreds of feet lengths on a cardboard core. The most common metallic foil that we die cut is aluminum.
Some of the types of metallic foil we have die cut include the following:
a. “Symphony” foil-based seal as supplied by the manufacturer Paxxus. The foil consists of an aluminum foil, a PET and a primer. The total thickness of the foil was 0.004” on a 4 1/8” wide roll.
b. “Allegro B” foil-based seal as supplied by the manufacturer Paxxus. The foil consists of an aluminum foil, a PE and a sealant. The total thickness of the foil was 0.005” on a 6” wide roll.
c. Zenith supplied by Bilicare at 0.005” thickness is a Polyethylene laminated soft aluminum strip foil.
d. Indium corp foil, this is used as a thermal interface. It is soft. Malleable and ductile. We cut the foil which was 0.004” thick supplied to us in small sheets.
e. Standard aluminum foil which was 0.005” thick on a 3” wide roll.
